JAMMU, Aug 25: Police and intelligence agencies are probing militant links and illicit relationships of a well-connected and high-profile Superintendent of police (SP), presently posted in Jammu.
Sources said that surveillance of mobile phone calls of the said officer led to these revelations. Though it is not known whether the said officer is involved in shielding anti-national elements or not but his relationships with wife of a Pakistan trained militant have been confirmed by police higher ups, on the condition of anonymity.
They said that alleged links of SP came to limelight after counter intelligence wing of police by chance heard some of the tapped phone conversations between him and the Sidhra based wife of a dreaded Pakistan trained militant. Sources disclosed that tapped conversation showcased illicit relationships of the SP with militant's wife.
They added that the two developed illicit relationships during the period when the said officer was posted in SOG Doda. The relationships grew to such an extent that the officer concerned helped the militant's wife to construct a house at Sidhra during his posting in Jammu city. Officer would visit the lady as a matter of routine, added the sources.
Sources affirmed that even during the office hours, SP used to spend most of the time with his 'beloved'. They said that the CI began surveying the mobile phone of the said officer on the basis of a complaint lodged by his colleagues, who suspected some foul play after keeping a track of the officer's daily routine.
Sources went to the extent of saying that even after the complaint, it was by chance that police while tapping phone calls of ex-SP Jail Salim Beigh got to know about the illicit relationships of the said SP with militant's wife. They disclosed that data of said officer's call records is being complied and sent to the top police officers for further action.
Sources confirmed that once the data is dispatched to the seniors, SP could be in trouble. Unaware of the technical surveillance, the said SP who is posted as Deputy Commandant in Armed wing of police in Jammu is still in touch with wife of the militant. They said that CI and CID wings of police are probing whether the said officer has in any way helped militants or he only has illicit relationships with militant's wife. |
