Jumat-ul-Vida celebrated in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 26 : Lakhs of people today joined Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of holy month of Ramadan, prayers in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region.
Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minster Omar Abdullah greeted people on the occasion.
Lakhs of people offered Friday prayers in mosques, shrines, open fields and khankhas in the jammu , Kashmir and Ladakh region.
Main functions were held at Hazratbal shrine, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad, and historic Jamia Masjid.
The authorities had made elaborate security and transport arrangements for the devotees.
Similar prayers were offered at the shrine Hazrat Mehboob- ul-Aalam, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani at Khanyar, Saraibala, Khankaha Moula, Jenab Sahib Soura, Haji Masjid Maisuma, Sheikh Dawood Batmaloo and Sheikh Yaqub Sarfi Sonawar.
Conveying his warm greetings, Mr Vohra expressed the hope that this auspicious occasion would be a harbinger of communal harmony, peace, progress and prosperity in the state.

He prayed for the well-being and happiness of the people of the state.

The Chief Minister has highlighted the significance of the day for the Muslims observing fast and controlling all human instincts to please Allah Almighty and seek His forgiveness and blessings.

"The day is the occasion of expressing gratitude to Almighty for His unabated munificence, blessings and benevolence showered by Him on the mankind," he said.

This is the occasion for the fast observing people to thank Allah for giving them courage and determination to conquer thirst, hunger, anger, emotion and repulse all influences of evils, and be kind to all showing special attention to the needy and poor, he said adding that the day is for observing special prayers for peace and prosperity for entire humanity.

The Chief Minister prayed for peace and prosperity of the state and well-being of the people.

The holiday on account of Shab-i-Qadr would be observed on August 28 instead of tomorrow, as per the government order issued here by the General Administration department.
