Heritage School bags overall trophy in documentary making competition

Jammu, Aug 26: Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School Jammu, organized an interesting and first of its kind “Inter-school Documentary Making Competition” on “Discrimination against Women” on 26th Aug 2011. The introductory guidelines for the preparation of the documentary were imparted by an efficient team of journalists consisting of Pradeep Dutta (chief editor, Times Now), senior video journalist, CNN-IBN), and Vikram Sharma (senior state theatre personality and correspondent Hindustan Times) well in advance in the month of April, giving enough time for personal research on the topic and spade work prior to the presentation. The teams were guided periodically in their efforts in the new venture. It was interesting to see the variety of performance, ideas and imagination put forth by young students in their first ever practice in documentary making.
The prize for Best Cinematography was bagged by students of Heritage School while the Best Editing went to Presentation Convent School. The Best Screenplay was awarded to SOS School and the Best Sound Track went to Jodhamal Sachool and the Best Documentation was bagged by K.C. International. The “Over All Trophy” was bagged by Heritage School.
Dignitaries present were Gulzar Ahmed Qureshi, Director School Education Jammu, Naveen Aggarwal, Additional D.G. Police, Seema Aggarwal, educationists from all participating schools and others.
The Chief Guest affirmed the school’s initiative towards eradicating social evils like women’s issues, rights of the child and eradication of poverty and education for all. New innovations in education encourage students co-operative learning as well as learning by doing. This competition was an opportunity for children to think out of the box and do something innovative using their imagination, creativity and critical thinking. Generation next expect far more in terms of exposure and self learning and critical thinking. Breaking away from the normal learning styles, this documentary preparation and presentation has given the students an opportunity to take initiative in analyzing situations and finding solutions for the problems that prevent the growth of the society to its full potential. It has given a platform for students put forward their opinion in a confident and convincing manner and it was a turning point for some in making their career choices.
While congratulating the participants, Sr. Rosamma, the Principal, Presentation Convent Sr. Sec. School, expressed her appreciation to all the young and talented students who can be the catalysts for India’s future. She said that the youth of India has a lot to offer for the development and betterment of our society and the country at large. She appreciated the members of the Health Club for their hard work and taking initiatives such as this in bringing about social consciousness as part of education.
