Poonch, Aug 26:- Atleast 250 families of Poonch who were migrated from Kerni village in 2001 have been rehabilitated by Indian Army back to the homes. The event witnessed a wonderful moment when these families crossed fence line and reached their homes after 10 years of migration.
As per reports, about 250 families of Kerni have been rehabilitated by the Indian Army in their village. These villagers had migrated following tense situation in border area after Indo-Pak forces exchanged border firing and shelling. MLA Poonch Ajaz Jan flagged off these villagers in presence of Brigadier of 93 Infantry Brigade Poonch, District Development Commissioner Ajeet Sahu and Senior Superintendent of Police Ashkoor Wani.
Speaking on the occasion, locals lauded the role of Army and said that they have been given a wonderful gift on the occasion of Eid. They also thanked local MLA Ajaz Jan for his role in their rehabilitation.
As per press statement of the army, the people of Kerni appealed to the Army and Civil Administration that the entire village should be re-located in one go. This genuine request of the people of the village was duly considered by the Army and Civil Administration. The request for re-location of the entire population of the village in one go has been approved as a humanitarian gesture and as an ‘Eid’ gift so that the people of Kirni could celebrate the festival together as families in their village. This gesture by the Army is sure to reinforce their image as friends of the local populace.
They said that all the remaining 244 villagers of Kirni village have been relocated back to their original homes ahead of the LC Fence. The elders, womenfolk and children were ecstatic with joy on going back to their homes after such a long wait. The people of Kirni have vowed to give their wholehearted support to the Indian Army, the Police and the Civil Administration and not allow any anti national activities in their village.
GOC, Ace of Spades Division conveyed his felicitations and best wishes to the people of Kirni. In his message to them, he conveyed the earnest desire of the Indian Army to ensure safety and security of the people and act as true friends of the locals. He added that there is a great responsibility that lies on the shoulders of the elders of the village in ensuring that the trust reposed in the people is not defied and no anti-national activities are allowed to take place in the village.
