Cement scam busted | | | JAMMU: Busting a cement scam, police today seized a truck at Udheywala in Domana area and seized 400 bags of Ambuja cement. Two persons, including driver, were arrested, according to police sources. Acting on a tip-off that some persons at Udheywala were pilfering cement loaded in a truck (JK02AG/2615), a Domana police party raided the spot and found that 5 to 10 kg of cement from each Ambuja bag was being taken out and then filled in empty bags of JK Gold Cement. The cops then seized the truck along with 400 Ambuja bags and five JK Gold cement bags. Driver Rajesh Kumar alias Raju, son of Om Parkash of Udheywala, and his associate Subash Chander, son of Sain Dass of Sungal, Akhnoor, were arrested and taken to Domana police station, the sources added. Sources said an iron instrument used for puncturing holes in the cement bags was also seized. The 400 Ambuja cement bags had been loaded by Raj and Subash in their truck from Hindustan construction company (HCC), Narwal, for their delivery at Kishan Ganga Project of NHPC at Bandipura in Kashmir. However, instead of transporting the cement to Kashmir, they took it to Udheywala for pilferage, sources said. During questioning, they allegedly told police that they used to earn eight to ten thousand rupees by way of pilfering cement from loaded trucks and then selling it in the market at cheaper rates. A case was registered against the accused at Domana police station under section 407 of RPC. On August 1 last, Akhnoor police had raided premises of M/s Gupta Traders at Bus Stand, Akhnoor, and seized a truck (JK02S/1439) loaded with 360 ACC bags which were meant for other states and not J&K. Driver Davinder Singh, son of Kartar Singh of Barmeel, Pathankot, was arrested. |
