Running with the hare and hunting with the Hound | Duplicity of PK faction......... | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 26: On August I9, the State Cabinet approved the de-reservation of the reserved category posts under the Prime Minister's package for the Kashmiri Hindu refugees. These 800 posts were falling in different reserved categories as per the government provision. This cleared the bottlenecks for the rest of the 3000 posts for the displaced Kashmiri Hindus for which the Government of India has provided financial assistance. The State Government has already refused to fill up the rest of the 3000 posts for which it had to bear the financial burden citing constitutional and financial reasons. A few days before the State Cabinet de-reserved the posts, the Governor of the State had granted audience to Kashmira Vahini representatives who, as per news reports, have made the demand for filling up of the remaining 800 posts for which the State Government already stands committed. In this meeting, the top functionaries of the State Government, including the Chief Secretary of the State, was also present. That the State Governor is showing extra-ordinary interest in such a matter is seen by many observers as a concerted attempt by the State Government to woo a section of Panun Kashmir to support its plan for return and rehabilitation of the persecuted and displaced Kashmiri Hindus. Panun Kashmir has so far steadfastly opposed the government plans for return citing the hostile atmosphere as exists in the Valley and the inability of the government to bring those forces to justice who caused the religious cleansing. Since the State Governor is seen as a main supporter of the type of solutions being worked out by the governments in the state and at the Centre, his personal involvement is not a big surprise because he does not want the displaced Kashmiri Hindus to rake up serious issues with regard to their displacement and upset the so-called peace process with Pakistan. But the involvement of Kashmira Vahini, which is being considered as the women's wing of a section of Panun kashmir , is a serious development. it has upset many a displaced Kashmiri Hinfus for obvious reasons. Many see it as a tactical move by some leaders to come close to the government. Through Kashmira Vahini, a sizeable chunk of the displaced Kashmiri Hindus believe, " such leaders are once again embarking on a role which smacks of duplicity as his organization has umpteen times rejected the employment formula of the state government" and "asked, instead, the appointments to be made in Jammu." "Playing on both sides of the gallery many", the concerned members of the displaced community say, "been the main feature of their activity." Their association in the past made many to remark that "Panun Kashmir giving signals of such associations exposes itself to the charge of becoming the frontline vehicle for touts operating from Delhi." Their inability to distance from the stance of Kashmira Vahini is adding fuel to these doubts. Some, however, say that "the group is not involved in this episode as Kashmira Vahini is operating without any controls from their side." It is time for such leaders to clear the confusion created by the Kashmira Vahini. Such an approach on his part would go a long way in putting things in perspective and establish that his organization would not walk into the trap of the State Government whose single-point agenda is to give a secular orientation to their anti-India and out-and-out communal movement. |
