Chaman impresses upon government to clarify stand on anti graft bill | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 27: The former union minister and member assembly Chaman Lal Gupta has impressed upon the State Government especially the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to clear their stand on the anti graft bill as is being agitated by Anna Hazare. In a statement Gupta said that the jurisdiction of the proposed law about Lokpal in Jammu & Kashmir is not more than this State which has earned the notoriety of being No.1 and 2 in the list of most corrupt states of the country. He said that many evils including the secessionism and public discontent are the result of being wide spread corruption in this part of the country. This is mostly because of the separate status has been given under Article 370 of the Constitution, he added and alleged that this status was being misused by politicians of different hues to blackmail the country on one hand and on the other abuse of public funds secured from the Centre. Gupta said that the time has come that alongwith the rest of the country strong measures including the law for establishing the institution of Lokpal at the Centre and under it a Lok Aayukt are needed in this part of India too. He said that the Accountability Commission and other measures to check the corruption in this State have proved insufficient to meet the challenges of the situation.
