Centre to support super specialty hospitals in J&K: Azad | | | Early Times Report NEW DELHI, Aug 27: Jammu And Kashmir State has received full support from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for early completion of Super Specialty Hospitals coming up one each at Jammu and Srinagar. This was stated by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad in a meeting convened to review the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Education Department today at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports R. S. Chib and Minister of State for Medical Education Javed Ahmed Dar were also present in the meeting.
Discussing threadbare various issues of medical education sector, the Union Minister was apprised that the construction of Super Specialty hospital in Jammu is nearing completion and could not be made fully functional in near future due to absence of Integrated Modular OT for which Director General CPWD has taken up matter with the Hindustan Latix Limited. Moreover, the work on construction of super specialty Hospital at Srinagar is in full swing. The training of existing Doctors for super specialty treatment, assumes a greater significance to keep the human resource available at the very initial stage was also discussed. The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare announced that a 4-member team of senior doctors two from AIIMS and two from PGI Chandigarh shall visit the state for formulation of guidelines for the training of appropriate number of existing doctors for such specialized job.
He said the team along with the members of CPWD and HLL will carry inspection on the site to ensure operationalization of Integrated Modular OTs by the first week of March, 2012 at Jammu, adding that the team also reviewed the progress of Super Specialty Hospital Srinagar. The requirement of additional funds amounting to Rs. 12.84 crores for procurement of remaining equipments for these hospitals and for construction of connecting corridors with the medical colleges and multi storey parking areas was also placed before the Union Minister, who said that same will be taken up. The construction of two newly sanctioned Maternity Hospitals one at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu and Bemina in Srinagar at an estimated cost of Rs. 62 crores each was also discussed. The Union Minister said the construction of these hospitals should be taken up by the State Government at the earliest. These hospitals will be fully air conditioned with modern facilities and will be hundred percent funded by the Government of India. Among others, Special Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Commissioner Secretary, Health & Medical Education, J&K, Principals of Government Medical College, Jammu & Srinagar, representatives of CPWD, representatives of HLL and other officials from Union Ministry of Health & Family also attended the meeting.
