Police unveils traffic plan for Eid-ul-Fitr

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: In View of the ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr, the SP Traffic Masood-ul-Zaman has said that tens of thousands of vehicles are expected to throng the City Hub at Lal Chowk.

Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements to discourage traffic gridlocks along Residency Road and M.A Road stretches which otherwise puts the common man to a lot of inconvenience as the whole area gets converted into a shopper’s paradise.

No vehicular traffic shall be allowed to ply on Residency Road from Radio Kashmir to Hari Singh High Street on one side and along Moulana Azad Road from SRTC Crossing to Jehangir Chowk on the other side except Emergency and on duty Vehicles. Restrictions shall remain in force on 29th, 30th of August, 2011. In case Eid-ul-Fitr falls on 1st of September, 2011 the restrictions shall extend up to 31st of August.

In addition, all vehicles coming from North and North-East of City Srinagar towards Lal Chowk shall take route along KohnaKhan – Dalgate - Ziyarat Syed Sahib Sonwar - Ram Munshi Bagh -Radio Kashmir – Rajbagh - Lal Mandi - LD and on return shall take either Bakshi Stadium -Exhibition - Old Secretariat – Tankipora - Habbakadal - Barbar Shah - Baba Dharam Das route or LD – Lal Mandi - Rajbagh – Radio Kashmir – Golf Crossing – SRTC Crossing – Baba Dharam Das route. At Baba Dharam Das, vehicles bound for Hazratbal and Soura shall take left turn and vehicles bound for Nishat, Shalimar shall proceed towards Kohnakhan Dalgate - Badyari Chowk and onwards.

Vehicles coming from West and North-West of City Srinagar towards Dalgate and Boulevard shall take route along Batamaloo - Karan Nagar - Shutra Shahi – Tankipora –Habbakadal - Barbar Shah-Baba Dharam Das - Kohnakhan Dalgate and on return shall take Dalgate - Ziyarat Syed Sahib Sonwar - Ram Munshi Bagh - Radio Kashmir – Rajbagh - Lal Mandi - LD - Bakshi Stadium and onwards.

Regarding parking of vehicles, Mr. Zaman said all shopkeepers/business establishments of Lal Chowk area shall park their vehicles before 0900-hours at authorized and designated parking places i.e; for Residency Road, Poloview Parking, Press Colony and Sangermal Shopping Complex, for Lal Chowk, Sheikh Bagh and Old KMD Adda, for shopkeepers and business men of H.S.H.S and Jahangir Chowk, the parking places at Khalisa High School, Municipal Shopping Complex opposite Kashmir Haat, Space between Indoor & Bakshi Stadium are kept for their convenience.

Also visitors to Lal Chowk shall park their vehicles at TRC Grounds, SRTC Yard, TRC Compound and Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium and shall not be allowed to proceed towards Lal Chowk along Residency Road and Maulana Azad Road.

SP Traffic has requested commuters requested for the sake of general convenience to adopt the concept of car pooling so that the heavy rush could be arrested and at the same time would help to save the precious fuel and time.

SP Traffic has appealed the general public not to park their vehicles along road sides particularly on the diversion routes. SMC is requested to constitute special teams to remove encroachments along road sides.
