AJHLA emphasizes on developing border tourism circuit in Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 27: In response to suggestions sought by Director Tourism Jammu for promoting Tourism in the region, All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has suggested developing a Border Tourism Circuit, covering entire international border belt from Suchetgarh to Chamliyal Shrine near Ramgarh and beyond in Samba district of Jammu region.

It has demanded setting up of a separate tourism development agency, under tourism Directorate Jammu, for border tourism development. AJHLA has demanded that border tourism at Suchetgarh be developed on the pattern of Wagha-Attari border of Amritsar, Punjab, where ceremonial unfurling of national flag in the evening, alongwith ceremonial parade by the BSF is held daily.

Arrangements for seating of visitors by creating a stadium like premises, with steps, facilitating viewing of the other side of the border should also be made. Besides canopy as well as shady trees, arrangements for drinking water and even setting up of a canteen to serve tea and snacks, on reasonable charges should be made. They also demanded that a link road from Suchetgarh to Chamliyal shrine and border along Samba district be constructed, where decorative shady trees be planted.

Jammu hoteliers association has also demanded that a replica of rail line along pre 1947 rail line between Jammu and Suchetgarh be laid and a mini rail be run on the route, taking several sorties, as a heritage tourism project. It has also demanded issuing of route permits to mini buses for running between Jammu, from old railway station premises to Suchetgarh and other border belts.

Association has further demanded up grading Manda wild life sanctuary, as a National wild life park, to be taken up by the central government. National wild life park should cover the entire Manda sanctuary extending up to Nandi wild life sanctuary. Association has further demanded speedy upgradation and modernization of present bus stand Jammu, converting it into a multistoried one.

AJHLA has also demanded earliest completion of Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex and that the same should be made operational in a phased manner and those parts of the project which are completed should be thrown open to the public. It has further demanded construction of a circular balcony on the outer circuit of Mubarak Mandi Complex, from where a wide view of landscape beyond Tawi River can be commanded.

Restaurants service snacks and beverages be setup in the complex. Museum, containing Dogra rulers artifacts art works, murals, paintings of various Dogra art schools, weaponry and ancient Dogra costumes should be on display while precious ornaments and jewellery of Dogra rulers should be exhibited on special occasions, housed in a separate museum. It has demanded setting up of light and sound system in Mubarak Mundi premises.

AHJLA has again demanded duly publicizing aquarium set up a comer of Bagh-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort. It has also demanded extension of Environment Park on Jammu By pass road.
