Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 27: Jammu and Kashmir chapter of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has expressed concern and remorse at increasing incidence of atrocities on women in general and sex related harassment to working women in particular.

Addressing a press conference here today, General Secretary of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) Com. Ninnal Rattan alongwith office bearers of association Com. Sunita Sharma, Com. Taslima Kounsar and Com. Veena Rathore while condemning all such retrograde acts called upon authorities to handle all such cases with utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

They said that any lapse on the part of the authorities in dealing with such cases is going to send a wrong message to the community at large, which may deter the parents from allowing the girls to take up to education and jobs. Federation in particular expressed its concern and anguish at the sad death of a young, and promising trainee officer, Parneet Kour, in the Police Training Academy at Udhampur.

They said that the mysterious circumstance under which the trainee officer has died has genuinely raised serious misgivings in the public Mind. Federation called upon the authorities and the government to come up to the occasion by ordering an impartial and high level probe in this very important issue.

Since the said Trainee officer has died within the premises of the Police Academy, it is incumbent up on the administration of the Academy to come clean in the matter, said the members of the federation. They added that any attempt at hushing up or covering up the matter will be equally met with stiff resistance by the federation and the civil society.

Federation called upon the authorities and government to institute an impartial probe into the cause of death of trainee officer and bring to book real culprits behind it. Civil society has refused to buy the police theory of suicide, and as such demands a thorough probe in the matter, added the federation. The Federation while demanding a prompt action into the matter, also demanded that in order to restore public confidence, the proposed probe be conducted by a retired or serving Judge of the High Court
