Bhalla tours Bathindi, Sunjwan; assesses flood damages | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 27: Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla today conducted an extensive tour to flood affected areas of Bathindi and Sunjawan towns to review the damages caused due to flash floods and heavy rains. District Development Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer, R&B, Tahseen Mustafa besides other senior officers from PHE, R&B, Revenue and Town Drainage Departments accompanied the Minister. Bhalla asked R&B, UEED and Town Drainage departments’ to prepare the projects and submit for funding so that the restoration works of roads and nallahs could be started immediately under state plan. He asked officers to immediately remove the debris from the nallah and drain all the nallahs of Bathindi and Sunjwan areas under NCRF funding so that the people do not face any inconvenience during rainy season. Minister said that the government is aware of the problems of the people of the state who have suffered losses due to flash floods. Bhalla said that the union government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is providing liberal funding to the state for accelerating developmental and economic activities. He appealed the people to cooperate with government agencies in the implementation of schemes. Bhalla impressed upon the officers to maintain transparency in distribution of relief among the flood hit families of the State besides ensuring its timely disbursement. On the occasion, Bhalla kick started plantation drive from Jeevan Nagar and planted several ornamental trees. He appealed the people to plant more and more trees in their respective areas for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring pollution free environment. At Qamarian Mohalla in Digiana, the construction of lanes and drains was started in the presence of the Minister, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 9 lakh. |
