Former corporator joins PDP | Another crack in NC | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 27: National Conference received another shock today when its Youth Block President, Mukhtiyar Ahmad Dar and ex- Corporator Peer Parvaiz Ahmad from Khanyaar Constituency joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) along with their workers. This is the second incident of its kind since July 16 when members from ruling National Conference have joined the PDP. Earlier senior NC worker, Ghulam Qadir Parray from Zainakote joined PDP along with his colleagues. He accused the NC leadership of patronizing goons. Addressing the function Parray said he was impressed by the `pro-people' policies of the PDP. Welcoming Mukhtiyar and his associates in PDP, Coordination Secretary J&K PDP, Abdul Hamid Kosheen said that this move is a significant in a sense that the popularity of PDP was growing among the politically conscious masses. "Every sensible person believes that the ideology of PDP and its sanctity has wider acceptance, not only among common citizen but also in the minds of politically sound persons." Normally ruling party workers do not desert their party. But this has happened twice since July 16. Observes perceive it as declining popularity of the ruling National Conference in Srinagar. Pertinent to mention, the NC won all the ten seats from Srinagar in 2008 elections. Surprisingly the Khanyaar constituency is represented by Law Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar. He has been playing a pivotal role in the constituency since Sher-e-Kashmir's times. And, if PDP has been able to dent NC in Sagar's constituency, then it has to do a lot of ground work. However, people close to Sagar played down the development. "NC is an ocean. A few drops make no difference", a worker said. But senior NC workers are worried. According to them it is an unfortunate trend. They blame the leadership for its failure to hold the party together. |
