52nd ‘tree talk’ held at Shankracharya temple | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 28 (KNS): Despite inclement weather and continuous showers in the morning, 52nd series of popular environment programme ‘tree talk’ was held at historic Shankracharya temple here on Sunday. The participants included pilgrims and tourists from Jammu, Kishtwar, Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bhopal, bureaucrats Suresh Chug IFS ,Yoginder Kaul IPS, G Prasanna IAS, college principals and professors. While appreciating the ‘tree talk’ initiative launched since 19 December 2010, CCF Suresh Chug highlighted the focus of global community on better management of bio-resources and need of sustainable development for future prosperity. He highlighted new government scheme of forest department pertaining to conservation and afforestation efforts launched under CAMPA initiative wherein forestlands diverted for non forestry purposes under Forest Conservation Project are being compensated for the loss of unavoidable green cover and damage to forests in Jammu & Kashmir. DIG Yoginder Kaul said that Shankracharya temple is an ancient symbol of Kashmir’s magnificent architecture and is one of the oldest Hindu shrines in Kashmir. |
