JAMMU | DEC 2 32nd national Women Sports Festival for Women (Group-IV)-2006 in the disciplines of Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi commenced at M.A. Stadium here today. More than 1000 players from 22 States/ UT’s of the country are participating in the festival. Earlier, the festival was declared open by Babu Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports. While addressing a large gathering of participating players and officials on the occasion he said that sports is not the tool for physical development only but for mental, moral and spiritual development too and added that organizing such a mega event is a step forward in bringing peace and harmony in the state of J&K by intermitting message of peace through the medium of sports. A.K. Angurana, Principal Secretary, Higher/ Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports J*K Govt. presented the welcome address and said that besides promoting sports in the state such festivals serve as launching pads in inculcating sportsman spirit and sense of sports aesthetics in the budding youth. He further stressed upon women empowerment and praised the organizers for organizing such a mega event. Later on Ravinder Gupta, Secretary J&K State Sports Council presented the vote of thanks and gave brief report of the festival. B.L. KHO-KHO Punjab beat Delhi by 9-2, A.P. beat Tamil Nadu by 7-6, W.B. beat Chandigarh by innings and 7 points 19-2, Assam beat U.P. by 9-6, Maharashtra beat M.P. by 15-4, Kerala beat Biahr by one innings and 14 points, 16-02, Haryana beat Rajasthan by one innings and 7 points 9-2 and Punjab beat Chandigarh by one innings and 10 points 13-3. Kabaddi Haryana beat Bihar by 57-26, U.P beat Orissa by 23-19, H.P. beat Gujarat beat 92-21, Karnatka beat A.P. by 49-31, Delhi beat W.B. by 48-11, Rajasthan beat J&K by 57-52, H.P. beat M.P. by73-28, and Chandigarh beat Kerala 60-49.
