Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 28: The statement of Union Minister Jairam Ramesh with regard to Rs 1000 cr package for 'Kashmir' youth has ruffled political weathers not only within Congress party but also among Jammu based cadres and workers of ruling National Conference.
In the statement Union Rural minister had mentioned that Centre is giving this package so that youth feel disinclined to the tendency of 'separatism'. Even as a leader of NC from Jammu , in a meeting at the party headquarters on Friday tried to 'clear the air' that the package is also meant for Jammu youth, sources said the statement, which was endorsed almost in similar gesture and tone by the Chief Minister has not augured well within his own party in Jammu.
Sources said in the meeting in which an NC leader was chief guest, the leader sought to clear what he termed as 'confusion' and wrong deciphering of the statement by Union Rural Development Minister during his recent visit to Kashmir.
Sources said while some leaders and middle rung cadres explained to the leader that this statement was bound to have adverse implication in the political constituencies of Jammu, many of which party has been able to build stronghold as there was no mention nor any meaningful gesture from the Union Minister or CM that to suggest that youth from Jammu and Ladakh region were equal and rightful stakeholders in so far as the share in this mega central package is concerned.
However, in a damage control step, sources said that the NC leader is said to have convinced the party cadres in Jammu that the government would evolve a mechanism first as to how this package can be meaningfully utilized for benefit and betterment of youth.
Sources said that the leader even convinced the party leadership that things were yet to be decided and before implementation the matter would be first taken up by the state cabinet, in which any minister from any party can express any 'reservation' over implementation aspect.
Sources said this was not the only issue which came up in a serious manner in the meeting. The leadership also expressed urgency of conveying it to the government, ironically led by this party, that people in Jammu had been badly hit by recent heavy rains and flash floods in which not only huge losses have been suffered in house collapse incidents and deluge in many low lying areas of Jammu, but in rural areas heavy rains had damaged crops.
Sources said the leadership wanted the matter to be conveyed to Chief Minister to at least intervene by way of ensuring that survey committees which have been set up to assess the losses expedite their work so that affected people get a sense of relief and feeling that this government has concern and care for them.
