| Anna sets an example for Jammu leaders to follow | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 28: The veteran Gandhian and civil society activist Anna Hazare who broke 13 day long fast in Union capital today after both Houses of Parliament yesterday adopted a resolution on his Jan Lokpal Bill has set an example for Jammu leaders to follow and fight the discrimination to which it was subjected for over last 60 years of independence.
The Jammu leadership has to learn a lesson from veteran Gandhian who with his firm resolve and dedication forced the Government accept his demand on Jan Lokpal, said Satish Poonchi chairman Jammu province People's Front. Jammu really needs a man like Anna to give it rid of continuous discrimination to which the region has been subjected to since 1947, he added.
There is not one field in which Jammu region has not been subjected to injustice and discrimination but in each and every sphere of life we face led down through the hands of Kashmir centric politicians, said Poonchi, adding whether it is in the number of Assembly or parliamentary seats, the Jammu region has not been given its due share.
Citing example he said the Jammu has more area than Kashmir Valley while the population of the region is also at par with Valley still the Kashmir has over 10 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat more than Jammu. Why is this discrimination?.
Whenever Jammuites raised a voice against the same they were suppressed by Government. But today every child in Jammu wants to seek an explanation that is Jammu region a less important component of J&K state, he asaid, adding the Government always tried to mislead and hoodwink the public opinion in delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies that there is moratorium on the same upto 20026. But this argument can't be true as in Jammu many Assembly constituencies have more than double voters from a single Assembly constituency in Kashmir and to overcome this problem the Government could have easily bifurcated such constituencies into two parts so that the problem could have been solved.
Likewise the Jammu has been neglected in tourism sector as the beautiful tourist resorts in the region like Patnitop, Surinsar, Sanasar, Mansar etc have not been given as much importance as the tourist resorts of Valley were given, said Ram Paul, president Dogra Liberation Front.
He said the West Pak refugees issue is a serious matter as these hapless people have been deprived of citizenship rights since their migration from Pakistan in 1947. They live in abject poverty and have been deprived of all their rights, he added.
The refugees who came from Pakistan and settled in other parts of India rose to the level of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister but the refugees in J&K are deprived of a Government job, he said, adding these people are living in abject poverty as some of them have no meals to eat.
Similarly the PoJK refugees have also been deprived of their rights and till date these hapless people have been deprived of compensation of their left over properties in PoK. Despite their protests the Government has ignored their demands, he said.
The discriminatory attitude of the Government towards the Jammu region is so grave that thousands of crores have been sanctioned for the development of Dal Lake while no such attention was paid for the development of Surinsar and Mansard lakes of Jammu. To fight against this discrimination Jammu needs a leader like Anna Hazare to lead a struggle to get the due share of the region. |
