Meeting on KPs return on Saturday | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 29 (KNS): To finalize the modalities for the return of Kashmiri Pandits, state government has called a special meeting of apex body for migrant rehabilitation on Saturday in Jammu. Sources told KNS that 40-member apex body headed by Revenue Minister, Raman Balla will review the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s Rs.1,618 crore relief and rehabilitation package for the return of the KPs. “Security, modalities for rehabilitation, and how to convince the KPs to return will be discussed in the meeting,” they said. Talking to KNS Minister of State for Home and Revenue, Nasir Aslam Wani, who is also vice-chairman of the apex body, confirmed that the meeting would be held on September 3. “Government’s policy is that KPs should return to their native lands. We will discuss all the modalities of return of KPs in the meeting,” he told KNS. The 40-member apex body has representatives from Muslims, Pandits and Sikhs. Finance Secretary and Secretary General Administration Department are also members of the apex body. Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Vinod Koul told KNS that so far 1400 KP employees have returned back to the Valley under the PM’s special package. “However, as a whole no family has returned yet,” he said. Meanwhile, Kashmir Migrants and Rehabilitation Welfare Society President Ashok Ranina has alleged that state government wasn’t serious in return of KPs to the Valley. “Despite assurances, government has done nothing practically for the return of KPs and it seems some invisible hands don’t want migrants should return to the Valley,” Raina told KNS. “Apart from Central and State government’s Hurriyat and United Jehad Council leadership had welcomed the return of KPs and assured safety for the minority community. However, some people in the state government don’t want us to return,” he alleged. Raina said that they met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Nasir Wani and Political Advisor to CM, Davender Singh Rana and submitted all the documents before them related to KPs return. “They assured us that steps would be taken for our speedy return. But unfortunately till date no step has been taken,” they added. |
