Kissan Tehreek concerned over increase in man-animal conflict
8/29/2011 10:10:34 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Aug 29:
Expressing concern over the increase in man-animal conflict in the Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Tehreek (KT) today said the wildlife department has totally failed in reining in the stray wild animals.
KT general secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik in a statement here said dozens of people have lost their lives in the man-animal conflict across the valley recently.
Referring to the incidents that occurred recently in Sheelnag and Shaltang villages of Dooru in South Kashmir, in which two minors fell prey to the wild leopard and many others were injured, Mr Malik said man-animal conflict has assumed alarming dimensions in the rural areas and wildlife department has failed to prevent such attacks on human beings.
Malik said such incidents often take place during nights, rural areas almost remain steeped in darkness due to erratic power supply.
He demanded a compensation to the victim families and provision of solar lights in these areas to prevent recurring of such incidents in future.
