Tarigami hails amnesty decision, calls for its immediate implementation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Aug 29: MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, who is also CPI (M) State Secretary has welcomed the decision of the state government granting general amnesty to the youth arrested on charges of stone pelting during last year. The CPI (M), which had been consistently demanding the release of the youth, also urged the government to implement the decision at the earliest. Meanwhile, he also highlighted the need to release the political prisoners lodged in different jails under the Public Safety Act, adding such measure would serve as potential internal CBM together with the general amnesty to youth. The legislator observed that the amnesty granted to the youth and release of political prisoners would ease the situation further and help in building an atmosphere of peace, trust and reconciliation. Tarigami called upon the government to actively consider the release of those PSA detainees, who are not involved in serious crimes. He also reiterated party’s demand to review the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Disturbed Areas Act (DAA), adding that the state government should intensify its efforts and vigorously pursue with the Centre for revision and revocation of these laws. Keeping in view the overall improvement in the security situation of the state, he said this is the ideal and opportune time to work towards revocation of these laws in order to normalize the situation and bolster public confidence. |
