| Sports initiative taken by the police appreciated | | | EARLY TIMES
Udhampur , Aug 29: Udhampur Police organized Volleyball tournament on the eve of historic Annual Sankri Devta Mela at village Upper Meer, Block Panchari, Tehsil & District Udhampur w:e.f. 26-08-2011 to 28-08-2011under the Civic Action Programme initiated by Director General of Police and Govt. of J&K.
In this tournament nine teams of different educational institutions of Block Panchari participated in the Volleyball tournament including the team of Youth Club in order to involve the youths in different sports activities and counseling to divert their energy to positive side.
In the final, the team of District Police Udhampur thrashed Volleyball Club Lander and emerged as winner of the trophy.
Tara Chand Deputy Chief Minister was the .chief guest on the final of the said tournament while as Jagit Kumar, IPS Dy. Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range and Shakeel Ahmed Beig, IPS SSP Udhampur were the guests of honour.
The Chief Guest awarded trophy to winner team and volleyballs & nets were provided to the teams under Civic Action Programme.
Trophies were also awarded to the organizer i.e. Inspector Sat Pal Modi, SHO PIS Panchari & Shri Bhim Singh, teacher (social worker) member of the said Youth Club Panchari and other participants besides distributing commendation certificates to the member of participating teams.
While addressing the participating players, SSP Udhampur said that taking part in the sports activities is a healthy sign which help the students to develop their personalities and keep them away from anti-social crimes.
However, the initiative taken by the Police was appreciated by the public of the area in general and the sports personnel of the area in particular. |
