Omar for promotion of green industry | ‘State to constitute TDF to encourage IT sector’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Aug 29: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday sought the special Central grants to the States to promote green field clusters and harness the potential for growth and development of electronic industry. He said creation of electronic products manufacturing clusters would be an important initiative in nurturing and developing environment friendly and employment generating entrepreneurship sector.
“Jammu and Kashmir is full of promises in this sector and the State Government has already initiated establishment of electronic industrial estate at Rengrath, Srinagar and setting up of a Software Technology Park over 20 acres at Ompora, Budgam is in the process”, he said adding that similar facility is intended to be created in the Ghatti Industrial Area in Kathua which is under development.
“Our focus is on creating substantial job market for youth in the State as such entrepreneurship development along with skills enhancement of youth is receiving priority attention”, he said underlining the need for wholehearted Central support in this regard.
Omar Abdullah said that State has in place a Nodal Agency for single window clearance and inter-developmental coordination.
Speaking at a high level meeting to discuss major initiatives for the development of Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry in the country here this afternoon, the Chief Minister sought the Central assistance for the development of computer software and hardware bases industry adding that the highly conducive climate and existing complexes in the State would provide a base to start new ventures.
The meeting organized by Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, Communications and Information Technology discussed measures expected to transform the landscape of ESDM sector and involve multi fold increase in domestic production from USD 20 Billion to 400 Billion and investments to the tune of USD 100 Billion, generating employment for about 28 million people.
“Government will constitute a Technology Development Fund for the IT industry in J&K and grant will be made available for R&D projects from this fund. Such projects will be made available to the public in suitable free software license and 50% subsidy will be available on expenditure incurred on R&D through any reputed organization in the public or private sector approved by the Government up to Rs. 10 lakhs. Subsidy amounting to 25% will be available on the R&D expenditure of any unit on non-recurring expenditure approved by the Government up to Rs. 5 lakhs”, he said. |
