EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 30:
To review the status of feasibility reports of various hydro power projects under investigation in Jammu province, the Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik today convened a meeting of officers from Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation at Civil Secretariat here this morning.
The Meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, JKPDC, A.K Kaul, Executive Engineer, K.K Badyal, Assistant Executive Engineer CI&D Division Jammu, besides other officers of the corporation.
Malik emphasized that hydro power potential of the state must be harnesses to its full. He stressed that hydrology of the small nallas in the state would be studied for proposing the smaller power projects under the recently introduced hydel policy of the state
Minister said that Ans River and its tributaries have greater power potential so the discharges of these nallas should be observed by installing guage sites at these nallas so that their power potential is studied and more power should be generated in rural pockets to meet the requirement of the power.
The minister said that public participation is vital for implementing various schemes and monitoring of various power projects under execution in their respective areas. He also stressed for updating various schemes launched by the JKPDC so that maximum benefit should reach to the people at grass root level.
Later, a deputation of Forum of Recognized Colleges (Force) met the Minister and apprised him about problems being faced by them which mainly related to admissions in Bed Colleges, BBA and BCA. The deputation informed the minister that notification for admission of candidates for B.ED course is issued in the month of August every year but this year it is issued in the month of June as a result of this there is no response from the candidates outside the state which should lead to very less admission in the colleges in Jammu.
The Minister gave a patient hearing and assured that the government will provide every possible help these colleges to mitigate their problems.
