Signature campaign in support of Degree College Majalta
8/30/2011 9:39:40 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Khoon (Manwal): Signature campaign was launched by Tehsil Development
Committee, Majalta, led by its president, R. S. Pathania, in support of a Degree College at Majalta. It is pertinent to mention that in the wake of announcement of twenty-two degree colleges by the J & K govt. proposed to be set up in various parts of the state, neglect of Majalta has sparked off constitution of an all-party committee in the name Tehsil Development Committee, Majalta, with prominent youth Congress leader, R S Pathania, as its president who has taken the full charge in spearheading a peaceful movement seeking Degree College for Majalta.

In the last few days, signature campaign stalls were set up at Battal, Majalta, Manwal and Khoon where massive public response, especially from the students’ side, has been

received.

Pathania has claimed that more than five thousand signatures have been received and the all-party committee plans to get signatures of as many as 50,000.

In addition to signature campaign, petitioning, peaceful picketing, sloganeering and processions are already going on in order to coerce the government regarding provision of a Degree College at Majalta.

The Committee further plans to call on union minister for HRD at the Centre and, Chief Minister J & K state, higher education minister and Member Parliament in order to lobby for the hard-pressed demand for Degree College at Majalta.

The plea of all party committee as well as people of Majalta continue that Majalta is the most-deserving case throughout the entire state for setting up a Degree College sanctioning of twenty-two colleges by the J & K government, at lesser deserving locations has struck a bolt from the blue for the 50,000-odd population of Majalta as well as people living in adjoining Tehsils.
