Unchecked market rates goes haywire in Kishtwar | Menace of exorbitant rates on Eid-ul-Fitr | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kishtwar Aug 30: Despite tall claims by the authorities that no one would be allowed to fleece the public by under weighing and raising rates over the fixed ones, but with a day or two left to holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitar, the market rates of various essential commodities in Kishtwar district goes haywire, as the authorities fail to check the menace of exorbitant rates on the eve of holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Various shopkeepers were involved in profiteering and overcharging while they also didn’t display rate lists at conspicuous places in their shops particularly chicken/meat shopkeepers/Vegetable vendors who were selling meat on rates higher to the one given in price list. Besides charging exorbitant rates from the customers, the shopkeepers also sold adulterated items like milk to the people. Similar reports were received from many places like Doda, Bhaderwah, Thatri, Ramban and Banihal, where the essential commodities are being sold on higher rates to the common people.
People in thousands had thronged at various shops across Kishtwar district for Eid purchasing. Children in large number were seen busy in purchasing cloths, bangals, mehindi and other things of their own choice ahead of Eid celebration.
