| 42nd Regional Sports Meet of KVs | | KV Jandrah, KV Anantnag in semis of U-16 cricket | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, August 30: Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Jandrah and KV Anantnag today sailed into the semi-finals of the ongoing 42nd Regional Sports Meet in under-16 cricket at different venues, here.
In the quarterfinals, played today, KV Jandrah defeated KV-3 Pathankot by 10 runs. Batting first, after winning the toss, KV Jandrah set a target of 88 runs, which, KV Pathankot could not chase and exhausted their quota of 15 overs for 78 runs with four wickets in hand.
Vivek, who opened the innings, remained top scorer with 38 runs while extras contributed second highest 17 runs. No other batsman could enter the double digit mark. From KV Pathankot, Anil was most successful bowler with four wickets for 15 runs in three overs.
Later, KV Pathankot could not maintain the required run rate and completed their 15 overs quota 10 runs short of the target for the loss of six wickets. Middle order batsman, Akash played superb innings of 26 runs, followed by Gokul who contributed 13. Amit bagged two wickets from KV Jandrah while Sourav and Shubam shared a piece each.
Now, in other quarterfinals, KV Gandhi Nagar shall take on KV-2 Jammu Cantonment and KV-3 Amritsar to lock horns against KV Domana for semifinals berth.
Earlier, in the last round of league matches played this morning, KV-2 Jammu Cantt defeated KV Suranassi while KV Nangalbhur beat Sunderbani
LAWN TENNIS: Meanwhile, in lawn tennis team events of under-19 and under-17 age group, KV-2 Jammu Cantonment bagged gold. Second place in under-19 group, second place went to KV-4 Jallandhar while KV Bantalab remained third.
