Jammu, August 30 : After having failed to set their house in order, the state BJP leaders want to shift the `battle field ’ to New Delhi for the time being. They intend to expose the Defense Land Scam involving 200 acre Srinagar Airport Defense land.
The issue is likely to be taken up with the Defense Minister. A press release issued this evening said ` a high level’ delegation will submit detailed documentary report” to the concerned. “The documents relate to the scam” the release said.
BJP’s concern for defense land has drawn flak from the people who believe the party had truck with National Conference (NC). The accusation cannot be rejected on the face of it especially in the light of cross voting during Legislative Council elections held early this year. Seven BJP MLAs have been suspended for cross voting. All of them voted in favour of the NC candidates.
The mysterious silence of the BJP over the land scam has only added to the suspicion. “They want to keep their ally (NC) in good humour. This is why they have decided to expose the scam in New Delhi”, said a school teacher.
The details of the scam were released to media on August 10 by Kirit
Somaiya. He had released details of Air Force land clandestinely
transferred to revenue records in connivance with the state
administration.
Pertinent to mention it is the biggest defense land scam in which the
private persons in connivance with defense and State Government
officials grabbed 200 acres of land near IAF station in Budgam
district. It is further alleged private players connived with defense
and revenue officials in transferring the plots to 61 people. This is
a serious issue as there is every apprehension that this land might
have been transferred to the anti nationals and terrorists. The land
being near IAF station can put the national security to a grave risk.
