CEC criticizes poor banking services in Leh

Leh: Aug 31: The Chief General Manager, State Bank of India Chandigarh Circle, S.K Sehgal along with a team of officers visited Leh and took stock of the working of the bank functioning in Leh.
Later, the bank official team called on the Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar in his office chamber yesterday.
The Executive Councillors Agriculture, Sonam Dorjey and Executive Councillor, Health Sonam Wangchuk were also present on the occasion.
Taking serious note over the poor banking service of State Bank of India in Leh, CEC, Spalbar said that the laxity of the higher authorities of SBI and inefficiency of the bank officials has left the local customers mainly living in Leh city unable to acquire quality banking services.
He said the faithless ATM service in Leh city not only let the local people suffer a lot but international as well as domestic tourists who came to Leh also seen suffering enormously as they have to wait in queues for hours despite of their strict schedule.
Spalbar further said that such banking inconvenience at different levels infusing bad impression on the tourists and most of them going back with sour memories. He further added that the main SBI building in Leh is very tiny to provide required services to the customers
Executive Councillor, Agriculture, Sonam Dorjey complained that the unemployed youths of Leh have been suffering a lot in getting sponsored loans due to complicated banking procedures.
However, the Chief Executive Councillor assured to help in identifying deserving students from Leh district for availing scholarship as the Chief General Manager informed the CEC earlier that SBI is launching a scholarship programme for students of Leh Distt.
He said that while formulating intensives schemes of Bank, the higher authorities should keep in mind the unique features and needs of Ladakh division keeping in view its topography.
He urged the bank authority to highlight the incentive schemes of State Bank of India among the general masses so that people could avail the facilities
