| All-time record pilgrimage to Vaishnodevi shrine | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 31:
With over 65.97 lakh people visited the Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine during the first eight months of the current year, pilgrimage to the cave shrine has surpassed all previous records.
An additional 8 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Sanctum Sanctorum which is more than the same period during the preceding year.
"The pilgrimage turnout of past years has been surpassed. A record number of 65.97 lakh pilgrims have visited the cave shrine till August this year," a Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board (SMVSB) official said.
"During the first eight months of the year 65,97,682 pilgrims visited the cave shrine - 8,28,095 lakh more than the figure of 57,69,587 pilgrims who visited last year," he said.
In view of the growing number of pilgrims, the Board has decided to set up a four-storey pony stand and a new locker complex, he added.
