Umar Farooq's support to employees meaningful
8/31/2011 9:39:47 PM
Chairman All Party Hurriyat Conference(APHC) and Kashmir Mirwaiz,Molvi Umar Farooq, has supported state employes' demand for the release of 6th pay commission arrears and increase in the retirement age.Is it a sign of separatists wishing to play the role of the mainstream opposition parties ?This question is doing the round in the state because during the last 21 years these separatists' hearts seldom throbbed with problems and difficulties of people, including the employees.Fudamentalism and extremism besides the right of self-determination for the people of the troubled state remained dear to their hearts. It was freedom from what usually they call "Indian occupation" and the freedom of press, freedom of expression, freedom of movement, freedom of voicing ideas, which the militants had muzzled and curtailed, never bothered separatists, including Molvi Umar Farooq, despite proclaiming well wishers of the people of Kashmir.
One does read a deep meaning in Molvi Umar's support to the demands of the employees. He wants the Government to give what was due to the employees. He does not like the state employees to be discriminated against those in the IAS ,IPS and the IFS.The Maulana has expressed deep dismay over the plight of the state employees who have not been paid the arrears of the 6th pay commission when those in the central services and working within Jammu and Kashmir having received the arrears long back. It is equally surprising when the Maulana believes that the state employees work harder than those in the IAS,IPS and the IFS.Another surprise. He not only expects the employees to resolve the problems of the people,he also wants that rules that are applicable to the IAS,IPS and IFS officers should be applicable to the state employees and hence he wants the arrears to be released without any further delay.
It seems that if the Anna wave failed to enter into Kashmir it has definitely influenced the Kashmir Mirwaiz who wants the employees to join hands for weeding out corruption, which has touched a new high in the Government offices. Has Molvi Umar Farooq any plan to emulate Anna Hazare and start a campaign against graft through protests and fasts.Whatever may have been the purpose behind the Maulana's sermons against corruption and his support for the employees there are signs that indicate APHC Chief's desire to come out of the self-imposed isolation and raise issues that concern employees and other sections of the society.Separatists like Maulana Umar Farooq wish to regain peoples' support which had started dwindling during the last 10 years. They have received a feedback that people have become fed up with violence, shutdowns and civilian strife. This way Maulana has departed from the 20-year old tradition which had made it mandatory on the part of separatists to keep off poll process, development activities, issues like corruption, problems of people as far as inflation and pay raise were concerned.Hence Maulana has spported the demands of employees as part of his plan to move from extremism to moderation.People should support him and his new strategy.
