| Grant class IVstatus to Numberdars, Chowkidars : Charak | | | Jammu, Dec 3 President of the Dogra Sadar Sabha and R&B Minister Gulchain Singh Charak on Sunday demanded that numberdars and chowkidars be granted usual pay and perks at par with fourth class employees with usual pensionary benefits while advocating the need for roping them in Panchayat administration to oversee developmental works in their respective areas. Addressing a press conference here today, Charak said since numberdars and chowkidars form the most important gross root institution and are playing a pivotal role in the administrative set up at all levels there is a greater need to provide them with service benefits at par with class IV employees besides providing them with office accommodation, transport and communication facilities and uniform with identity cards. He said, each numberdar is getting Rs 81 per month as honorarium while chowkidar is paid Rs 250 per month as remuneration, which are totally incommensurate in comparison to the prevailing market rocketing prices and amounts to sheer neglect rather injustice. He said it is the need of the hour that their following pertinent demands need be addressed early to ensure their comfortable living and as well encouragement to discharge their bounden duties with dedication and zeal so as to prove themselves as valuable asset to the society. Charak said during December 6 convention they will approach Chief Minister GhulamNabi Azad to address their pending demands ending their two decade long wait. He said their institution has been performing liaison role between all civil departments and local public and as well discharging an active role in extending whole hearted cooperation to the Defence and security agencies in all their insurgency operations at great risk to their personal safety and that of their family members. Paying glowing tributes to numberdars and chowkidars who have fallen victim to terrorist attacks he said they have been performing their duties without fearing for their life and property and should be compensated appropriately. Emphasizing the need to address their genuine concerns with out wasting precious time,Charak said other states including Haryana and Punjab have initiated positive steps to improve the status of numerdars and chowkidars who have been provided adequate relief thereby entrusting them with the respectable position to discharge their active role in the administrative set up. However, in our state, due to turbulent conditions, the responsibility of numberdars and chowkidars stand greatly enhanced even at great perils but it is irony of exigencies of time that their problems are not being addressed to, despite their representations and repeated protests for the last more than two decades. Though the successive governments have given positive assurances to improve their lot but nothing substantial has emerged so far. |
