Habibullah pumps Rs 24 lakh fake currency in Kashmir | List of 15 suspects prepared, crack down likely | | Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Aug 31: In a bid to breakdown the financial edifice of the country, particularly of Jammu and Kashmir State, the neighbouring country has pumped fake currency worth crores in Srinagar alone. The startling revelation was made by the three fake currency racketeers arrested by Special Operation Group (SOG) a couple of days ago. According to a Police officer, during initial inquiry the one of the arrested persons Habibullaha, a West Bengal resident, told that he took the consignment two times earlier. During his sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he alone had pumped Rs 24 lakh in Kashmir valley in eight different ferries. Habibullah further revealed that in return he got commission of Rs 25000 on delivery of one lakh fake currency. Officer said that on the revelation of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi son of Abdul Rehman and Abdul Rashid War son of Sonaullah both residents of Haihama, Soipura Kupwara, a list of their Kashmir based fifteen associates was prepared and the same was handed over to the Kashmir police for their arrest. Among the fifteen persons six are the separatist leaders. Police is also cross checking that whether fake currency is supplied to militants for subversive activities or not. Another police team is being constituted to dispatch to neighbouring states including Pathankot in Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to arrest ten more persons involved in smuggling fake currency to Jammu and Kashmir, sources said. The racket of fake currency was surfaced when Special Operation Group (SOG) during the intervening night of August 26 and 27 arrested three people Habibullah of Malda West Bengal , Ghulam Mohammad Sofi son of Abdul Rehman and Abdul Rashid War son of Sonaullah both residents of Haihama, Soipura Kupwara and recovered Rs 5 lakh worth of counterfeit currency in the denomination of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 from their possession. They hired a Scorpio (JK09-6302) from General Bus Stand and moved towards Nagrota on the National Highway, but were caught hold by Jhajjar Kotli police which activated its naka on the basis of information by SOG. |
