Bouquets to surrendered militants, brickbats to Amaranth land row martyrs | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 31: The State Government has framed a policy for the rehabilitation of surrendered militants or the forces that waged a war against the unity and integrity of the nation but it has no policy for rehabilitation of the families of 13 martyrs of Amarnath land row agitation of 2008. This speaks volumes of the double standards adopted by both Union as well as state government towards the nationalist forces in J&K. Three years have elapsed since the land row agitation ended and agreement was signed between the leaders of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) and State Government on August 31, 2008 and at that time it was agreed in principle to provide a job to next kin of the martyrs besides payment of ex-gratia relief. It had also agreed in principle to pay the compensation to traders , transporters and hoteliers who had suffered a loss of Rs 150 corore on account of over two month long agitation. But till date these demands were met despite the repeated pleas made by the SAYSS leaders to the Government from time to time, said Ravinder Raina spokesman of the Samiti. He, while taking a serious exception to the double standards of the Government said that it has all sympathy with separatists and those who waged a war against the country, but no such policy is there for the patriotic people who laid down their lives for the national pride. Raina said the Government announced amnesty for the last year's stone pelters in Valley but it neglected the 167 people of Jammu against whom the cases are registered in land row agitation. This speaks volumes about the discriminative policies of the Government towards the Jammuites. Government is advocating for moving a resolution in favour of dreaded terrorist Afzal Guru who is involved in Parliamentary attack of 2002 and it has a soft corner for the separatists but not for the nationalist people, he added. The Government has strongly played the cause of surrendered terrorists who went for arms training to Pakistan and their rehabilitation policy has been put into force, said Mukesh Sharma an activist of the SAYSS. If the Government is really sincere it should have settled the cases of those involved in land row agitation also and provided compensation to the next kin of the land row victims, he added. He said the families of some of the victims are living in abject poverty and they need an immediate help from the Government as these martyrs did not took a banner or revolt against the national unity and integrity but fought against the forces who were trying to undermine the Indian authority in J&K, he said, adding these martyrs will be remembered till this universe exists. Mukesh while questioning the authenticity of the Government wanted to know what yardsticks it had applied in rehabilitation of militants, granting clemency to stone pelters and denying justice to 2008 land row martyrs or withdrawing cases fully against those who played a leading role in the agitation. He also did not absolve the Union Government saying the Congress led UPA at Centre was hand in glove with Omar Abdullah Government's pro separatist policies.
