3 women picked up by City PS as burglary suspects, "tortured"

JAMMU, Aug 31: Three poor women were picked up by City police station as suspects in a theft case and allegedly tortured in lock up.
A police document said Asha Rani (30), wife of Rocky, Sunita Devi (35), wife of Vijay Kumar, and Nisha Rani (18), daughter of Champa, all residents of Rajiv Nagar, Narwal, were detained by City PS two days or so back as suspects in a theft case.
The police station confirmed the detention but said all the women were later released without the registration of any case against them.
The women, who were later admitted to the GMC hospital for the treatment of injuries they allegedly received at the police station, alleged in their statement to senior police officers that they were tortured in the police station lock up. The copy of the document had also been made available to IGP Dilbag Singh and DGP Kuldeep Khoda, police sources said.
