Mubarak Mandi Bachao Andolan Committee demands its preservation through ASI
9/1/2011 9:21:07 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sep 1: The Executive Committee of the Mubarak Mandi Bachao Andolan met at Mubarak Mandi Jammu.
Before holding meeting the members of the Committee visited various parts of the Mubarak Mandi complex and had view of their current position.
Most of the parts of the Complex were in dilapidated condition and some at the verge of collapse.
The Executive Committee of the Andolan expressed grave anguish over the neglect of this royal historical complex built by the Dogra Rulers from time to time and having history of over two hundred years. The Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir functioned its offices from this complex for over sixty years from this complex but has criminally neglected the building after moving out.
Whereas 69 other monuments of smaller importance in the state have been handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India(A.S.I.), this complex of great and unique historical importance has not been handed over and is criminally being neglected collapse.
The Andolan executive sharply reacted to the proposal of the Govt. regarding four laning of the circular road on the Tawi side.
The committee expressed apprehension that if the hill beneath Mubarak Mandi is disturbed, it would result into landslides and collapse of the building structures. The Committee also discussed about the impact of the proposed ropeway project from Mubarak Mandi to Bahu Fort. The committee felt that vibration may disturb the structures. Better it would be if its alignment and basement changed in such a way that it covers Mahamaya, Bahu Fort and at the same time does not disturb Mubarak Mandi Complex.
That executive of the Andolan demanded of the State Govt. to hand over the Mubarak Mandi Complex to ASI for its preservation and renovation without further wastage of time.
Narsingh Dev Singh Jamwal (patron), H C Jalmeria (coordinator), Mohan Singh, Gianeshwar Sharma, Udey Chand, KK Koushal, Shivdev Singh participated.
