NCP leader demands from FCI to procure farmers’ crop in time | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sep 1: Former minister Randhir Singh, NCP president J&K state has demanded that Food Corporation of India and state Government must procure their paddy in time at the rates fixed by Govt of India @ Rs 1080 per quintal. The leaders of the delegation condemned the Food Corporation of India and Govt of Jammu and Kashmir for not procuring the paddy last year and the farmers were forced to sell their crop at throw away price to the local businessmen and local rice shellers and these sheller owners looted the farmers. Thakur Randhir Singh while addressing the farmers said that central and state Govt must learn the lesson from the recent popular movement of Anna Hazare who has awakened the nation and proved that the public is supreme and told the leaders of the farmers to organize protest meetings in each village, block, tehsil, district if Food Corporation of India and state govt do not come to the rescue of the farmers in the state and particularly in the rice producing districts of Kathua, Samba, Jammu and other rice producing areas Singh has appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to meet the farmers and implement the procurement policy laid down by the central govt recommended by Commission on Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP) much earlier than the crops comes in the market. Singh said last year the paddy growing farmers were forced to sell their paddy to the local rice shellers at their will and most of the farmers reached to the starvation position. Singh has appointed Sham Singh president J&K Nationalist Kissan Sabha to organize farmers club to raise the burning issues of the farmers regarding paddy procurement, timely distribution of fertilisers, better seeds, irrigation facilities from Ranbir canal,crop insurance and other issues of the farmers with the concerned authorities like compensation on crop failures .
