9/1/2011 9:29:11 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, September 1: BJP held a meeting of its senior functionaries and party activists at Reasi today which was chaired by state President Shamsher Singh Manhas. BJP National Executive Member and Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also District Prabhari for Reasi, was present at the meeting which was convened by District President Kabla Singh.
Shamsher Singh Manhas, while addressing the meeting, accused government of discriminating and not sparing enough money and resources for Jammu province as a whole and also for Reasi district. He said that Reasi district is known for having carried out several successful movements in the past and now this is the time for another movement to secure the legitimate rights of the district, including creation of a separate Reasi tehsil. He called upon the party activists to have faith in the leadership of the party and stay committed to the party ideology and agenda.
He called for development of Pancheri as tourist spot and assured that the party will take up the grievances of the people at highest level, both with the government an within the party.
Manhas also referred to the statement of State Chief Minsiter Omar Abdullah in support of Afzal Guru and said that while making such statements Omar Abdullah is trying to divide the people of the state on communal lines and creating gap between Hindus and Muslims.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that Reasi district has the unique distinction of having a mixed population of all religions and castes and can therefore emerge as a role model district of secular and composite character.
He also pointed out to a strange contradiction that while Reasi district through Salal Project produces maximum amount of electricity it does not get its due share of power as a result of which people have to suffer long hours power cuts.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that there was an urgent need to ensure that the people of Arnas and surrounding areas did not have to travel all the way to Mahore for getting bail for minor police offences because this virtually amounted to violation of Human Rights.
He also alleged that ministers from the ruling party were pressurising the recently elected Sarpanches and Panches to affiliate themselves with the NC and Congress. He also emphasized the need to expedite the road repair work between Katra and Reasi and also immediately fill up the vacant posts in government health centers and schools.
Kabla Singh thanked the party activists for having turned up for the meeting inspite of heavy rains and bad whether. He enlisted the local problems faced by the people of Reasi at present and appealed to the party High Command to take up the issue with the concerned authorities.
He also said that if the government fail to concede the demand of tehsil for Reasi, the party will be compelled to launch a massive agitation.
