Pakistan troops again violate ceasefire, JCO killed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sep 1:In yet another ceasefire violation, the Pakistani troops resorted to heavy firing from across the border, targeting Indian forward posts in Keran sector. The firing resulted in injuries to an Indian army soldier while a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed after alert troops foiled yet another infiltration attempt. Three Pakistani soldiers were also killed in the exchange of fire between the two armies. A Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Colonel J S Brar told, "Pakistani troops resorted to heavy firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector, targeting our forward positions last night." Indian troops also retaliated and silenced the Pakistani guns, he said, adding, "today again the Pakistan troops violated the 8-year ceasefire and fired upon our positions in the same sector in which a soldier was injured." He said troops also retaliated effectively and the exchange of fire continued in the sector. This, he said, was a major violation of the ceasefire agreed between India and Pakistan in 2003. However, he said, there were some minor ceasefire violations in the past from Pakistani side. Lt Colonel Brar said Pakistani troops were firing to help militants waiting across the border in launching pads to infiltrate into this side before the higher reaches are closed due to heavy snowfall in winter.
