BJP of press conferences and vague statements | Plight of Duggar Pradesh | | Neha JAMMU, Sept 1: The state unit of the BJP says day in and day out that it is for the nation, as also it is a party that always fight for the genuine cause of Duggar Pradesh. It's not true. What it says is simply an exercise in self-deception. It is not really and unequivocally committed to the national cause. Nor is it actually committed to the cause of Duggar Pradesh. It is just like Congress, the NC and the PDP. It is basically a party of press conferences and statements and it believes that its only job is to react when some development takes place in the state or when the Kashmiri leadership perpetrates some injustice on the oppressed and suppressed Dogras. A reference here to just three instances would be in order. First, the Congress-led UPA Government inaugurated a Rs 1000-crore training-cum-placement programme for the Kashmiri youth saying it wants to keep the Kashmiri youth away from separatism. The programme rigorously excluded the Dogra and Ladakhi youth. What did the BJP do to take on the Union Government and fight for the cause of the Dogra youth? It did nothing. No demonstration. No rally. No dharna. No fast. No mass mobilization. Nothing of the sort. The BJP leadership simply issued two statements and went into hibernation as if it had done the job and discharged its obligation to the humbled and discriminated against Dogras. Two, the BJP took part in the programme organized by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti yesterday to remember the martyrs. The programme was described as Swamiman Divas. The BJP leaders, including the party president, former party president, one MLA and the chief spokesperson of the party were present during the otherwise impressive programme, which was also attended by the martyrs' family members. It was also an emotional scene. Reflecting on the August 31 agreement reached between the state government and the Samiti leadership, the BJP leadership criticized the state government for not honouring the agreement. Its complaint was that the authorities had not compensated the martyrs' families; that it had not withdrawn cases against several Jammu youth; and that it had communalized and politicized the Amarnath Yatra. Did the BJP suggest any action plan to force the authorities to honour the agreement? No, it did not. It simply issued a statement on the issue and that's all. It did not say that it would organize protest demonstrations to force the authorities to do the needful. It simply issued one statement to hoodwink and fool the Dogras. After all, it is a party that had dropped he demand for the recall of Governor Narinder Nath Vohra, who had said "we did not get any land and nor did be hand over the land to the state government." Three, Omar Abdullah tweeted the other day and virtually indicated his desire to move a resolution in the assembly asking New Delhi not to hang Afzal Guru, who was convicted in the Parliament attack case - tweet that has created a sort of furore in New Delhi. Did the BJP come forward to oppose and defeat comprehensively the Chief Minister's ulterior move? No, it did not. It simply issued a statement expressing its grave concern over what the Chief Minister tweeted and that's all. No demonstration. No mass mobilization. No dharna. No protest. No march. Nothing of this sort. Just a statement as if it has discharged its duty towards the nation. This is the state BJP. Mercifully, it has the audacity to question the attitude of the Congress and the Panthers Party towards what Omar Abdullah tweeted and so on. How could the state BJP think in terms of questioning the Congress and the Panthers Party when its own role is unworthy of any consideration and positive comment? Something is fundamentally wrong with the state BJP leadership. It appears the BJP has lost its path. Its inability to take up the cause of the Dogras as well as the national cause is also because of the fact that the Dogras have by and large rejected the BJP for the kind of role it had played in the immediate past. Take, for example, the cross-voting indulged in by the BJP MLAs on an unprecedented scale in April last to ensure the victory of the Congress and the NC candidates seeking election to the legislative council. The BJP, if it wishes to remain relevant in Duggar Pradesh, needs to win over the Dogras by coming up to their expectation. Its present approach to the issues afflicting Duggar Pradesh and the nation just cannot conciliate the outraged and humiliated Dogras. They need a definite action on the ground and not press conferences and uninspiring and vague press statement (read lip service). |
