NC patron's Modi comments could sink NC in Rajouri and Poonch | | | Early Times Report Poonch, Sept 1: Known otherwise as a strong political bastion of the ruling National Conference (NC), the party is fast losing ground in Jammu's green belt districts of Rajouri and Poonch. This is attributed to the unstable and mercurial stands taken on critical issues by the NC leaders. Presently the NC is under fire in these districts for Dr. Farooq Abdullah's comments on Narendra Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister. Although the election is three years away, the NC is facing extreme criticism from the Muslims on the issue and it is widely believed in Rajouri and Poonch districts that the disparagement of the NC patron and former chief minister could prove fatal for the party in the future elections. The so-called Modi card played by the Dr Farooq Abdullah recently to please the Gujarat Chief Minister may turn fatal for the party as on the auspicious occasion of Eid majority of Muslim scholars have raised their objections on his remarks on Modi. It is pertinent to mention here that in a function at IIM Ahmedabad recently along with Gujarat Chief Minister Narindra Modi, Dr. Abdullah said "The day I see Allah in Modi's eyes and Modi sees Bhagwan in my eyes, India will grow". The same has been condemned by the Muslims of this state and on the occasion of Eid in Poonch; Muslims announced rebellion against the party. On the occasion of Eid congregation, Imams have condemned Dr Farooq Abdullah's remarks and advised Muslims to remain vigilant from the political tactics of NC Chief Patron and central minister Dr Farooq Abdullah. Even some National Conference leaders are of the view that these remarks may sink the party in next assembly elections. These leaders said that Dr Abdullah is harming the party due to reason known only to the NC patron. |
