“Induction of “yes men” in Apex Committee is aimed at playing with interests of KPs” | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 1: Though the Apex Committee on Kashmiri migrants has failed to take up the genuine issues of the displaced Pandits with the Government for their immediate redressal, the State Government has recently expanded the Committee by inducting some more ``yes men'' into it to further its return formula and plan for displaced pundits. The failure of Kashmiri Pandits to forge unity and mushrooming of the parties in the community has made a mess of Apex Committee as every Pandit organization having no base on ground also approaches the authorities to give representation to its group in the Apex as the same being the only genuine representative of the community. Putting under the pressure of such self styled leaders and sycophants of ruling coalition the Government has inducted some more members in the Apex Committee. These leaders weather have any acceptability on ground among the displaced people or not but to play a spoil sport they are seen rubbing shoulders to surpass each other in proximity with the ministers and bureaucrats. To continue in the Apex these leaders may welcome every action of the Government whether acceptable to the displaced Pandits in general or not. They may be knowing that by nodding their head in support of Government decision will prove counter productive but to show their supremacy they will not hesitate from trading on the community just to remain in the good books of the ministers and bureaucrats, said Kundan Kashmiri president Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC). He while referring to recent statement of the MoS Revenue Relief and Rehabilitation, Nasir Aslam Wani that the Apex Committee is meeting on September 3 to discuss the return formula of Pandits said without taking the cross section of community and its genuine leadership into confidence the Government can't decide on the return of community on the consent of handpicked Apex Committee members. If the Government is sincere it should take leaders of all three factions of PK, KPC as well as other organizations of displaced Pandits including KSD into confidence on the issue. Besides the well meaning people as well as intellectuals of the community like professors and , writers as well as social activists be also take taken into confidence on this serious issue. Kashmiri said that any hasty step on the return taken at this juncture will boomerang and turn into a total failure. The situation has not changed for better in Kashmir as yet as the infiltration still continues across the Line of Control (LOC) and recently over a dozen infiltrators were gunned down in Kupwara district. The infiltration is also continuing from Poonch sector and this is a dangerous sign, he added. Supporting him Ramesh Manwatti a PK activist warned the Apex Committee members for stamping the return formula of Kashmiri Pandits and said that such a step will not be in the larger interests of the community. He reiterated the homeland demand saying if Government is really interested it should discuss this issue with the community leaders. He said induction of ``yes men'' in Apex Committee is slated to play with the overall interests of the displaced Pandits and silence their voice. |
