Indian spikers win maiden international gold | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 01: Indian men volleyball team brought laurels to the country winning the 18th Nursultan Nazar Bayen President’s Cup international men’s volleyball tournament held at Amity in Kazakhstan recently. The Indian team that received a cash prize of 30,000 US dollars and a gold cup was accompanied by general secretary of Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir, Kuldeep Magotra as manager. Two of the team members, Naveen Raja Jacob and Kapil Dev were declared best spiker and setter of the tournament. In the five-day long competition, Indian men defeated the opponents from Tusisia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Iran and China in the pool and knock-out matches. Comprised of two Arjuna awardees, Kapil Dev and Sanjay Kumar remained the star performer. It is important to mention here that the Indian volleyball team won gold medal at the international level for the first time. Meanwile, on his return, Kuldeep Magotra was felicitated by the office bearers of the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir.
