JKP to organize Run for Fun Marathon on September 10 | Rajendra discusses arrangements | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 02- Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing Ist Marathon “Run for Fun” in Srinagar on September 10, 2011. The event is being conducted by the organization under its Civic Action Programme and a mass participation of the people representing different shades of life is expected. This was disclosed by Additional Director General of Police, Armed/Law & Order, (ADG) Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar while presiding over a high level meeting of senior police officers at Armed Police Headquarters here today. The meeting was held to discuss arrangements to be made for conduct of grand event. The meeting was told that the event would be first of its nature in the valley having different categories. The run would start from Police Golf Course Boulevard, Srinagar and in the first category, senior citizens including their families and kids would start from the venue up to Cheshmashahi Chowk covering 4 kilometers distance. In the second category boys and girls under 16 years would cover 12 kilometers distance up to Nishat and back. Similarly, in the half Marathon Male category, the participants would have to run from the venue up to Habak Crossing covering 21.5 kilometers and in the Open Marathon category participants with no age bar would start their run from the venue up to Ganderbal via Habak and return back covering a distance of 42 kilometers. Registration for the participation in the event would be made up to September 5, 2011 and entry forms would be available with Sports Officer (Armed Police Headquarters) Municipality Road, Srinagar. The registration of students for the event concerned committee members have been asked to liaison with the District Sports Officers Department of Youth Services and Sports. It was also informed that the flag off ceremony would be held at 5 a.m. at the venue followed by prize distribution function on the conclusion of the events. Six winners each from first three categories and 8 winners from Marathon category would be awarded with attractive cash prizes. Besides, 20 consolation prizes and certificates of participation would also be distributed at the closing function. During the meeting, Mr. Rajendra stressed upon the officers present in the meeting to coordinate with each other and make effective arrangements for the event. He said that to ensure massive participation of students of various educational institutions and senior citizens from different districts of the valley, free to and fro transport facility would be made available from the district headquarters to Srinagar. The meeting constituted various committees to ensure arrangements and make the event a success. The ADG asked the traffic authorities to divert public traffic towards the other routes in order to avoid inconvenience to the public during the event. Among others, the meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police (Armed), Mr. Rauf-ul-Hassan, DIG, Mr. Abdul Qayoom Manhas, SSPs/SPs, Mr. S. A. Hameed, Mr. M. A. Untoo, Mr. Ghulam Sarwar Chauhan, Mr. Rafiq-ul-Hassan, Mr. Suresh Kumar, Mr. Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, Mr. A. G. Malik, Mr. Maqsood-ul-Zaman, Mr. Ghulam Jeelani Dhar, Joint Secretary J&K Athletic Association, Mr. Tulal Ahmed and other senior police officers.
