Chief Secretaries of UP, Gujarat, Punjab urged to disseminate Yatra related advisories | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar Sep 2: In the recently concluded Amarnathji Yatra a total of 107 pilgrims died due to medical reasons. Of these, as many as 50 belonged to the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The chairman Shrine Board, N. N. Vohra, had asked R. K. Goyal, CEO of the Board, to particularly address the aforesaid states to seek their help and cooperation in sensitizing the intending pilgrims to undergo strict medical examination before embarking on this Yatra. Goyal, CEO, has addressed the chief secretaries of these three states and solicited their interest for the dissemination of Yatra related advisories containing Do’s and Don’ts which are repeatedly issued by the Board, in the larger interest of the pilgrims hailing from these States. In his communication to these states, Goyal has stated that the Shrine Board has been endeavouring every year to sensitize the Yatris to come fully prepared, particularly in regard to their physical fitness, for undertaking this arduous pilgrimage, passing through high mountain ranges upto 14,000 feet and experiencing unpredictable weather conditions. The pilgrims, who have one or the other medical problem, particularly suffering from Cardiac ailments, run the serious risk of losing their lives in this mountainous area, he said. The CEO observed that of the 107 pilgrims who died in the Yatra 2011, the majority of them died due to cardiac failures.
