Neglected LoC traders remind CM of VAT exemption | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT POONCH, Sept 2: Trans LoC trade on the Poonch-Rawalkote route is likely to come to a halt yet again as traders accuse the Chief Minister of failure to fulfil his promise of VAT exemption. The traders had resumed trade after four months strike recently on government assurance. However, according to the traders, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah failed to get the order issued regarding exemption of trade from Value Added Tax (VAT). The exemption has been given on goods manufactured in Jammu Kashmir. The problem, traders said, lies in the fact that no goods manufactured in Jammu Kashmir are traded through the route. The exemption, therefore, makes no difference. Threatening indefinite strike, the traders said: “We will not tolerate this joke from government and we will again go for strike.” The traders are also planning to build pressure on government regarding return of VAT from 2008-2011 to the traders. They said that all the VAT paid to the state must be returned back to the traders.
