‘3 pronged strategy’ to protest CM remarks on Guru Disoriented MLAs, disjointed BJP: | what would be fate of ‘offensive’ ? | | Early Times Report Jammu Sept 3:With political controversy over Afzal Guru case having been intesnified, a ‘pro active’ state unit of BJP has got a handy issue once again it can rake up to the hilt in J&K for which it has even decided to go ahead with three pronged strategy to register its protest againg the remarks and utterances of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Afzal Guru hanging, long drawn agitational programme being the focus in all the strategies. One really wonders how and what would be fate of such an agitation, if launched the way party leadership has envisaged. It goes without saying that thrust of the what the party has chosen to declare as ‘offensive’, would remain to portray these remarks out and out as anti national and provocative for nationalist people of the country. One cannot deny the fact that party in the past has been taking up , genuinely so, such issues which ‘thematically’ touched upon nationalism, patriotism, complete soveriegnty and integration of state with Indian union etc etc and even some issues loaded with Dogra or Duggar sensitivities. The state president Shamsher Singh Manhas has no doubt given a call this time again for a prolonged struggle over this issue and in order to have coordination with national leadership a 4 member panel has also been named. The party has indeed succeeded in ‘politicising’ the issues to hilt much to its politcal benefit and favour over some issues in the past, but if one looks at the recent past, it has not only failed to rake up the issues in right pesrpective and deserving voice but also left the matters half way without taking them to logical conclusions, leave alone getting some visible political success. There are reasons valid which attribute to this ‘failed or hlaf hearted approach towards the issues it could have fought well and even managed a good political harvest. One that BJP post 2008 Assembly elections may well have managed to bag as many as 11 seats in the House, a historic victory and position it attained politically but in less than three years it has tattered the figure to a complete disjointed, disunited and humilating orientation. The fact remains post cross voting episode in April this year followed by a flurry of developments within the party, BJP at present with is left with only 4 MLAs actually om whom it can bank upon heavily inside the House, notwithstanding the fact 6 other MLAs facing charges of cross voting technically continue to be party MLAs. In the backdrop of a spree of expalanations , show cause notices, the posturings of these MLAs towards a a particular leader , it would be a far fethched thing to bank upon them thoroughly in so far as reverbrating the Assembly with the Afzal Guru issue is concerned. As for the pledge of the leaders that they would expose PDP and NC over this issue, BJP needs to understand it well that both these parties seldom need to be exposed as their stand on such issues is too clear and straight and their political strategies are well drawn that address their constuiencies to the core. For both go with complete conviction, no matter it hurts Delhi or damages Congress. As for the strategy to organise protest programmes at distrcit level against Omar Abdullah over this ‘sensitive’ issue, one wonders , given the present ‘make up’ and order within the party, to what extent they would be able to reach out to people and who all they would be taking along in these programmes. One is surely prompted to ask this question why did BJP fail to launch such an agitational programme with agitaional mood and sentiments over Dogra Certificate, an issue that would have assured involvement of dozens of social, political organisations when the sentiments of Jammu people were high. It would be interesting to see how far BJP can take this fight ….?
