20000, national international postal stamps on display in Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sep 3 : More than 20,000 postal stamps of International standard are at display at Leh, where 15-day-long Ladakh festival 2011 to attract more national and foreign tourists was organised.
Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora inaugurated a photo exhibition organised by the Department of Information at Indoor stadium Leh in which a wide range of portraits depicting the culture, monastic, flora and fauna, landscape and life style of the people of all regions of Ladakh has been displayed for exhibition for general people.
Expressing pleasure over the collection of a variety of portraits, he desired to add more pictures of Ladakhi culture and tradition in next photo exhibition.
The photo exhibition was witnessed by a large number of foreign and domestic tourists, besides the local people.
The Minister also inaugurated a Philatelic exhibition organized by Department of Posts in which more than 20,000 postal stamps of International standard were displayed.
Mr Jora said holding of such Philatelic exhibitions on postal stamps would get to know many countries’ historical figures, flora and fauna, renowned world personalities and Hollywood stars.
He urged the students to get themselves know about the importance of stamps saying that stamps collection is a good hobby.
The Minister welcomed the initiatives of Department of Posts in converting the Post office of Leh city into a Tourist Post Office from September 5th where postal, STD, internet and printing services up to 2000 hrs would be provided to facilitate the tourists.
He also appreciated the Postal Department Leh for providing satisfying postal services to the people.
The Chief Postmaster General (CPG) Sameul informed as many as 97 post offices are currently working in entire Ladakh region.
He said that the Department of Posts is also going to open a new Post Office in Chal-Lungnak this year.
The Department of Posts is also holding essay writing and stamp designing competition among the school children and the topper would be rewarded with cash prizes up to Rs 10000, he said
