Rather for realistic Power Purchase management plan State’s Power Purchase Bill increases to Rs. 2400 crore

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 03:-
Calling for regular monitoring on Power Purchase and consumption adding that reduction in Power Purchase and increasing revenue on account of Power tariff is primarily required to keep check on the power budget Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Ab. Rahim Rather today called for a realistic power purchase management plan within the budgeted provision of 2400 crore for Purchase of Power. He has suggested imaginative management of the Power sector in all possible ways for this purpose.
Rather was speaking at a high level meeting convened here to workout modalities for evolving a realistic power purchase management plan in the State.
He also called for strengthening of State Power Development Corporation (SPDC) which is emerging as a major Power Corporation in coming days when Karthai, Sawlakote and Baglihar-II Power Projects are completed. The Corporation at present manages about 20 power projects in the State. He said that various central Public Sector understanding (CPSUs) have hiked the cost by about 50 paisa per unit which has impacted power budget adversely.
Rather exhorted on the Power Department to conduct special awareness campaign to educate people about necessity for conservation of power and importance of avoiding wastage of power. Moreover, he said, those who are involved in the theft of power should be dealt with sternly as per the provisions of the new Electricity Act which in addition to penalty also provides for imprisonment of such defaulters.
