| Plantation drive at GDC Akhnoor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 03-A plantation drive-cum-awareness camp was organized today at Government Degree College (GDC), Akhnoor jointly by the Departments of Horticulture & Floriculture Jammu in collaboration with Sant Nirankari Mandal Akhnoor.
Director Horticulture, Jammu, Mr J L Sharma while addressing the participants advised them to take keen interest in plantation and elaborated the benefits of plantation in general and fruit and medicinal plants in particular. He impressed upon the students to keen interest in plantation and other environment protection measures.
Director Floriculture, Jammu, Mr K K Sharma also addressed the participants and briefed about the importance of growing flower and ornamental plants both for beautification and earning livelihood.
A number of fruit and ornamental plants were planted in the college premises. As many as, 1450 plants of Amla, Ashwagandha and Shatawar were also distributed free of cost among the participants. The Amla plants have been distributed under national campaign on promotion of Amla through J&K state medicinal plant board.
Joint Director Horticulture, Sant Nirankari Mandal Akhnoor, Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Research Officer, J&K State Medicinal Plant Board, Principal GDC Akhnoor besides other were present on the occasion.
