Kathua, Jammu girls consolidate position in U-19 Kho-Kho | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 03: Girls from host district Jammu and Kathua consolidated their position in the league round on the opening day of the two-day inter-district divisional level under-19 kho-kho competition, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Youth Hostel Nagrota fields, here today. While Kathua girls won both of their league ties played today, Jammu outplayed Rajouri in the inaugural match. In the first match, Kathua trounced Samba making it a one-sided affair. Later, Kathua girls blanked Poonch 10-0. In other match of the day, district Udhampur emerged winner outplaying Samba district. Losing both of their league matches, Samba girls now have little chances of making it to the knock-out stages whereas their counterparts from Kathua are set to move in the next round. Today’s matches were officiated by penal of experts including Rakesh Kakkar, Rajesh Sambyal, Ram Murti, Gulbir Singh, Balwan Singh, Pritam Chand, Jaswant Singh and Rattan Lal Sharma. Earlier, the competition was declared open by Deputy Director DYSS, S S Bali, who interacted with the participating teams and encouraged the girls, especially those from far off districts of Poonch and Rajouri. Prominent among those present were Manorma Sharma, Champa Devi, Avtar Krishan, Sarita Padha and Jeet Singh (all ZPEOs) as also Veena Tikoo (PEM).
